The Beginning
 The first Birch office was located
near the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets in Melbourne, Australia. Here Edgar
distributed the various products he was able to buy. He opened accounts and was able
to service the requirements of Melbourne department stores daily. Slowly the company
grew and new premises were required.
Since then the company has moved 7 times through continued expansion and growth.
From 1970 E.C. Birch has taken over 4 companies in Victoria, Perth and Brisbane.
Customer service is the prime objective for company motivation. Overseas trips are
conducted to source new specialist products. Viewing trade shows allows us to remain
at the forefront of the sewing and craft industry.
In 1970 the company developed their own brand of haberdashery products being first
to introduce a hang-sell range into Australia. Since then the company has continued
to develop into a national company, helping the Australian economy along the way with
exporting.
Today
The company is presently owned and managed by four members of the Birch family.

Birch has grown from 4 representatives in 1950 to a current team of 45, servicing and
distributing to both large and small retailers throughout Australia, New Zealand,
Singapore, New Guinea, Fiji and Hong Kong.
This professional sales team meet monthly for instruction, guidelines and the release
of new samples. They are dedicated and well trained with the experience to meet all
customers' needs. Representatives are supported by 126 warehouse, office and in-house
sales personnel to ensure distribution of products and services are of the highest standard
To efficiently service our customers requires properly, well stocked warehouses close to
major customer base.
Our warehouses are situated in Perth - Western Australia, Brisbane - Queensland, Auckland
- New Zealand with our Head Office and warehouse in Melbourne - Australia. Sales
offices are situated in Adelaide - South Australia and Singapore. Products can be viewed
and supplied at all of these locations.
Our Future
The next generation of Birch's including Ben, Melissa, Rebecca, Simon and Liam are
learning about the day to day running and procedures of the business with regular
hours spent in the warehouse during school holidays.
